India hosts its first IFLA Global Studio Program at VESCOA Mumbai, fostering international academic collaboration in landscape architecture
Mumbai, November 10, 2025: The Indian Society of Landscape Architects (ISOLA) announces Asia Pacific Regional Congress 2025, a flagship international event celebrating the evolving dialogue on landscape architecture and urban resilience. Set to take place on November 14–15, 2025, at the Jio World Convention Centre, BKC, Mumbai, the Congress will be held under the theme “Growth Paradox: Reimagining Landscapes.” The two-day event will convene eminent professionals and thought leaders from across India and abroad—spanning the fields of landscape architecture, urban planning, ecology, design, and policy—to deliberate on redefining growth for a sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready urban environment. Through keynote sessions, discussions, and curated exhibitions, the Congress will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
All Major IFLA events are accompanied by an Allied event of a ‘Global Studio Program’ (GSP). The IFLA GSP is an experimental attempt to build connections with global Students Charettes in 2025. Students of Masters’ or Bachelors’ program in Landscape Architecture from different parts of the globe participate in the Charrettes. The objective is to achieve global participation to trigger debate and communication and diffuse knowledge of regional differences and interests along with building capacity in terms of networking of Landscape Architecture institutions, students and faculty. It is an effort to build leadership and global exchange.
VESCOA, Mumbai hosts the 1st IFLA GSP India from 8th to 12th November 2025 – The Mumbai GSP Charette is an Allied Event to the IFLA-APR Regional Congress 2025. The Mumbai Charette started with great enthusiasm today, hosted by Vivekanand Education Society’s College of Architecture, Mumbai, “Reimagining Urban Landscapes: Negotiating Mumbai’s Paradoxes”. VESCOA holds Masters’ Programs in Landscape Architecture and Urban Design which provides an apt ecosystem to host such a Global studio program. It brings people together across geographies to ideate and influence the way cities evolve, balancing ecology with urban growth. The five-day intensive charette shall engage students from India and abroad both in person and remotely. This platform is a catalyst to engage students, faculty and institutes of Landscape Architecture for a common cause of bettering our urban environment. The GSP aims to identify challenges and ideate solutions over a five-day intensive Charette with innovations that advance the dialogue between landscape, design, and sustainability. This Mumbai Charette theme is grounded in the belief that cities are not singular entities but complex systems interacting in contradictory ways, in which the natural processes and human-generated interventions continuously converge, conflict, and co-evolve.
Urmila Rajadhyaksha, President of ISOLA, said, “The IFLA–APR 2025 Congress is a platform for India to engage in global dialogue on how we shape our environments. Landscape architects have the power to influence the way our cities evolve, balancing ecology with urban growth.
Mr. Sanjay Unahale, Mumbai, appreciated such an event as it attempts to bring dialogue and Ideas to improve and find solutions for urban contexts which are everchanging changing in time.
VESCOA Principal Dr. Prof. Anand Achari said, “Hosting the IFLA GSP 2025 positions the institute as a platform for meaningful dialogue on contemporary issues of Mumbai’s Urban landscapes at a global level.”
The IFLA GSP Mumbai Charette is supported by the Soonabai Pirojsha Godrej Foundation. Tejashree Joshi Head, Environmental Sustainability, Godrej Enterprise – spoke about how one should take care and manage our landscape resources and how Godrej as an industry has embedded this sensitively into their industry processes implementing, bringing awareness and educating society.
The chair of the Mumbai Charette Landscape Architect Bhakti Thakoor said, “The GSP hopes to build knowledge and inspire students towards collective action for a sustainable future.”
